Many sincere, on-fire Christians struggle with their walk with Christ. They try all manner of teachings, succumb to errant deliverance ministries, or learn to exercise “mind-over-pain” to suppress bad feelings, unwanted thoughts and sinful desires.
Others, in their effort to walk in the joy and peace of the Lord end up seeking help from secularized Christian counseling. Many resort to seeking psychotherapy and take prescribed medication to suppress nagging symptoms to maintain emotional stability. However, the side effects of antidepressants and antipsychotic medication often do more harm than good.
God’s word declares that most of these mental and emotional symptoms stem from a crushed spirit and a broken heart. “A gentle tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness in it breaks the spirit” (Proverbs 15:4); “A glad heart makes a cheerful face, but by sorrow of heart the spirit is crushed” (Proverbs 15:13); “A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones” (Proverbs 17:22).
God can be called upon to heal the brokenhearted and crushed in spirit. Unfortunately, few ministries effectively help God’s wounded learn how to work with God and allow Him to heal and resolve the deep wounds within their heart and spirit – thus, becoming whole in Christ.
